WRITERS' GUIDELINES:
City Legacy accepts unsolicited articles but prefers to first respond to inquiries
submitted by electronically or by snail mail. All initial correspondence should contain a
cover letter, resume and clips. A self addressed stamped envelope guarantees the return of
material. Please be sure to include your name, address and phone number. We do not publish
work anonymously. We make every attempt to respond to queries and manuscripts within four
to six weeks. Our lead-time is approximately six months. We do not charge a read fee.
We suggest anyone wishing to submit material to City Legacy
first read an issue to get a
better feel for our editorial focus. Copies will be available on our website or through
New York Skyline Publications, Inc., 123 Seventh Avenue, PMB260, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Our first
issue is expected to be published in April 2001
Accepted submissions must be made on a 3 1/2" disk or electronically by e-mail.
All snail mailed submissions must be accompanied by a double-spaced type written draft. We
can accommodate most computer readable text, however, our guidelines for disk submissions
significantly reduce our production costs and speed up our response time. Computerized
submission details are available upon request.
The length of articles ranges from 1500 to 3000 words. Longer pieces may occasionally
be accepted. Department pieces, essays and columns may be up to 1000 words.
Fees start at 15 cents per word and vary upward depending on the length of the article,
research demands and subject complexity. In special cases, higher fees
can be negotiated. We pay upon acceptance. In the event that we
cannot, after signing a contract, come up with a mutually satisfying piece, writers will
be entitled to a kill fee of 50%. We reserve the right to then reassign the project or
publish accepted sections of the piece. Writers may be asked to rewrite or alter sections
of accepted manuscripts prior to publication.
City Legacy purchases first North American publications rights including Hawaii, and the
right to republish excerpts of an accepted article for promotional purposes. We are
publishing on the internet with copyright statements and reproduction limitations stated
in each issue. Contributors must be willing to accept the possibility of
unauthorized downloading of their work from subscribers.
Writers must agree to indemnify City Legacy against all cases of plagiarism or copyright
violation arising from any part of material submitted for publication. Possible conflicts
of interest must be fully disclosed to City Legacy prior to acceptance.
We sincerely look forward to working with you.
